Thank You

We have closed down the Give Now donation portal through which we raised $265. This was a fantastic gift that we appreciate very much. The Eco Compassion Church is waiting in the wings for all the conditions to come together and the time is right for us to proceed. The money raised will be set aside for this purpose.

Thank you for the words of support and encouragement and we hope to see you soon with more news.

Ancient Medicine for Healing Modern Minds is a practical manual for dealing with life issues using basic Buddhist idea’s. Set out in an easy to read, easy to understand format, this book is a self-help guide with meditations and daily affirmations that can be used in every day life.
Printed on 100% recycled paper and completely free, Ancient Medicine for Healing Modern Minds was written by Venerable Thubten Tenzin, the director of the Eco Compassion Church. As a westerner Venerable Tenzin knows what it’s like to suffer from the disappointment and expectations of western life.

For Sale!

As a way to raise money for the church, our property is up for grabs. It’s a beautiful place that has served as a Buddhist Abbey for the past 5 years. Check it out

Our spring newsletter is now available for download. For the latest on what’s been happening click here or email us to be added to our mailing list.

What to Say?

Again, still not much happening. We have put in an application for a loan to purchase some land and we are awaiting the sale of our property to fund the build.
We could always do with some help. Do you know about eco building, can you make a donation – however small, are you a draftsperson that can draw up some plans for us?
We are now without a builder due to costs, and our materials list is changing all the time as we investigate different methods and products. Most of all we just want the church to be built! We want to get our compassionate message out there.
If you can help in any way please email us ecocompassionchurch@gmail.com

It has been a long time between blogs, the Church is on a bit of a back-burner as we sort out some things and get ready to raise the funds needed to purchase land and prepare to build. Ven. Choden has made the brave step into the world of building codes, beginning a TAFE building course so she can guide us through the immense process of self-building.

We have collaborated with Our Community to set up a portal for donations for the Eco Compassion Church at GiveNow. Click the image below if you would like to help us make the Church a reality.

Hi, It’s been a while between posts.
The ECC will be built predominantly from straw bales with a steel frame. The straw bales will be infill but there will be no frames other than the four posts holding up the colourbond Ritek roof so the walls will be primarily bales. We are in the very beginning stages of the project but we have already had help from Huff and Puff Constructions and also Fairfield council who built an eco community centre in 2007, we have modeled our project closely on theirs.

When finished, a straw bale house has a textual, earthy finish and has high resistance to fire as shown in a recent CSIRO study. Evidence has also shown straw bale buildings to last a long time with examples in the U.S. over one hundred years old. The insulation properties of straw bales are amazing; compared with a conventional wall system which has an R-value of 2.0 to 3.5 straw bales have an R-value of 5.5 to 8.5! This will reduce the amount of energy needed for artificial heating and cooling.

More info on materials we will use will come soon…

What’s with calling your centre a church, isn’t church a Christian thing?
Good question!

The ECC has been developed by the ordained Buddhist monastics of Tharpa Choeling Abbey headed by our abbess Venerable Thubten Tenzin an Australian Buddhist nun. We have been offering low-cost or no cost Buddhist teachings as a method for healing body and mind for over 6 years. It is the aim of Tharpa Choeling Abbey and it’s affiliates Blue Padma Services, Singmo Institute and BYI4I to make the rich, beautiful and complete teachings of the Buddha as accessible as possible for people from western cultural backgrounds.

Yeah, but why church?

Oh, yeah, sorry! Because it’s a term we are all familiar with. A church is simply a place of worship, but to us it’s more like a place we can learn, study and grow, where we can access that clean, clear, compassionate heart we have within us all.
We are Australians working for Australians and it’s time to break down the view that Buddhism is an “eastern” thing.

Hi!
In the coming months we will be providing information related to The Eco Compassion Church (ECC), a planned ecumenical Buddhist church to be situated somewhere in Central West NSW Australia. As the name suggests the ECC will be built sustainably and include many green features and technologies. Also the ECC will be host to social welfare programs and Buddhist based healing and learning workshops including a vegie patch for local children, regular meditation sessions and no-cost Buddhism-focused counselling. Eventually we hope to host yearly Buddhist conferences, guest speakers from all Buddhist and secular traditions and much much more.

This blog will keep you up-to-date on the progress of the Church which is currently at it’s planning stage and later there will be a proper page developed with information about the church.
